Panel discussion on the possibility of a unified Estonian photographic community at the Museum of Photography’s exhibition Isolation Dialogues

In the spring of 2020, the Museum of Photography’s large-scale project Isolation Dialogues brought together various representatives of the Estonian photography community, who worked with the common goal to capture the sense of the isolation period as visual conversations for future generations. The whole process caught the interest of a broad and global audience – the virtual photo collection that functioned as a living organism, persistently growing over two months, fascinated a large number of people – having 26,000 followers at the beginning, and the number has now grown to almost 60,000. The Isolation Dialogues had and still has as their main goal to bring together the local photographic community. It proved that working together for a common cause is possible in this otherwise individualistic sphere. In the framework of the Tallinn Photomonth satellite programme, we look forward to bringing the photographic community back together in order to start up a conversation on the possibility of a unified Estonian photographic community – is this even necessary, why, if and in which ways would it contribute to the development of visual culture in general?
